We will discuss “Year of Wonders” by Geraldine Brooks, a novel set in 1665 that examines the impact of a plague on a small English village. Brooks, whose other novels included March and People of the Book, examines how young housemaid Anna Frith tries, with the Rector and his wife, to hold together the community and meet the medical and spiritual needs of the beleaguered villagers-and how the experience permanently broadens Anna’s view of the possibilities of a life of service.
