War and Peace and Lent: Exploring How to Live in the World

A commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War

Some traditional Lenten exercises seem small and personal (giving up chocolate, not swearing).  What if humans gave up killing each other instead?  Hopefully, this Lenten theme will help us think more broadly, more communally.

Mark Twain’s “The War Prayer”
The centerpiece of the sermon will be a dramatic presentation of Twain’s classic satire about prayer during time of war.  Will involve three actors with speaking roles and a few townspeople.  (Actors wanted to play townspeople.)
