Interfaith Conference
of Metropolitan Washington

AGENCY DESCRIPTION: The InterFaith Conference has been building community since 1978 by deepening dialogue and understanding among people of different faiths and working for social and economic justice.

ADDRESS: 1426 9th Street NW, Second Floor, Washington, DC 20001-3330

JOB DESCRIPTION: Associate for Development in Non-Profit Management

The Associate for Development will have an interest in non-profit management. In the one year that the Associate will be part of the staff team of the InterFaith Conference, he or she will work closely with the Executive Director and Development Consultant in the following areas:

Leadership Gifts – working to identify potential major donors and to quantify the gifts that such individuals could make to IFC;

Grant Writing – working to secure support from various foundations for new and existing programs, as well as general operating support. The IFC has half-time use of an online foundation directory through the Foundation Center;

Concert Donors – IFC’s largest annual program is also its largest fundraiser. On November 18, more than 1,200 people will gather at Washington National Cathedral for the 29th Annual InterFaith Concert. Each fall the concert is held in honor of an outstanding leader in the metropolitan Washington area. A committee is formed earlier in the year to help raise funds in that individual’s name for the InterFaith Conference. Lists of names of potential donors are generated and are solicited for a gift;

Bridge Builders’ Awards Ceremony – in late spring or early summer, IFC honors several individuals by presenting them with InterFaith Bridge Builders’ Awards during a ceremony at an embassy or museum. Fundraising for this event proceeds in much the same way as the fall concert;

Faith Group Giving – IFC has 11 member faith traditions. All contribute annual membership fees to sustain the organization. Greater consistency is needed in communicating the need for occasional increases in faith community giving and invoicing each of these member groups will begin as well;

Research – Using the Foundation Center directory and other tools known to the Associate for Development, IFC hopes to be able to do substantial research on identifying sources of funding for the organization during the year that the Associate is on staff.

QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS: Outstanding communication skills and skills in persuasive writing, degree in business administration with a focus on non-profit management
