On Sundays:
- Currently youth in grades 7-8 gather each Sunday in order to explore Neighboring Faiths.
- Youth in grades 9-12 meet monthly as they explore how
they might serve God and creation as they prepare for their mission
trip in June.
- During the school year, the confirmation class meets
twice a month for youth in the ninth and tenth grades.
Curricula
at Westmoreland
Our Whole Lives (OWL)
Used biannually in rotation with
Neighboring Faiths, OWL is a
comprehensive sexuality curriculum that provides accurate information
for parents and youth alike. OWL helps
participants make informed and responsible decisions about their
relationships, health and behavior in the context of their faith. Learn
more about Our Whole Lives.
Neighboring Faiths
Used biannually in rotation with OWL,
the Neighboring Faiths curriculum
compares the major religions of the world, and also examines some
less-understood faith traditions. The class takes field trips
throughout the year to many different houses of worship in order to
better appreciate other religious traditions.
Confirmation
Youth at Westmoreland generally attend Confirmation class during their ninth grade
year (although exceptions are made when necessary). Confirmation is taught by two lay leaders with
the assistance of Jessica Petersen, and Rev. Rich Smith and Rev. Bob
Maddox as needed. The program includes bi-monthly meetings and a
spring retreat.
Youth Group
Westmoreland has two group offerings for its youth!
Middle School (6-8 grade) and High School (9-12 grade) groups meet for
a wide variety of social gatherings, retreats, service projects,
sporting events and more! Please see the calendar
for further information.
